Why sizes don't convert perfectly
Size labels are a convention, not a measurement. Zara's M and Primark's M aren't the same garment, and US brands have drifted larger over the years ("vanity sizing"). These tables give the standard high-street conversion, which is right for most items. When you're selling, add measurements as well so the buyer doesn't have to guess.
Selling across borders on Vinted and Depop
Vinted lists the same item for buyers in the UK, France, Germany and more, and Depop sells to the US and UK. A buyer in Paris thinks in EU 38, not UK 10. Put both in the listing:
- Women's dress: "UK 10 / EU 38 / US 6"
- Men's jacket: "Size M (38in chest, EU 48)"
- Shoes: "UK 7 / EU 40 / US 9 (women's)"
